This week, my sketchbook has been captivated by the quiet, everyday beauty of glass. It’s a medium that presents a unique challenge, and a rewarding one at that. Unlike a solid object, a glass jar or bottle isn’t just about the form itself—it’s about what you see through it, the way it distorts light, and the reflections and colours it captures.

For me, drawing glass is less about the object and more about the interplay of light and shadow. The way light hits the surface of a Coca-Cola bottle isn’t a flat shine; it’s a mosaic of bright whites, refracted colours, and distorted reflections of the world around it.

Or the distortion of shape in the pickle Jar.

Each object presented slightly different challenges. From the translucency of a Coke bottle, to the see through appearance of the pickle jar and the texture and light on jam.
