Sketching a woman putting lipstick on in a mirror

Share one of the best gifts you’ve ever received.

Growing up I used to love sitting on the edge of my granny’s bed, watching her put her lipstick on in her dressing table mirror. When she passed away I held on to that memory. I still remember the light green Clinique tube with a rich coral colour being held in her hand.

This latest work is inspired by that memory.

It’s amazing the journey those small interactions can have on our lives. It sent me on an adventure as a makeup artist for 14 years before coming full circle back to what I know and love – portraiture.

Granny taught me how to use chalk pastels and watercolour. The two most prominent features in my work today.

Thank you Granny, for the education and beautiful memories you gave me. I will forever treasure you. ❤️
