My newest painting was such a nostalgic process for me. When I went to university to study art back in 2005, mixed media portraits were one of the things that sparked my interest the most.

For a while now I’ve wanted to create something with newspaper. The key, I believe, to a successful mixed media portrait are two things: layers and purpose.

Know why you are using what you are using and what purpose it serves.

In this case, the newspaper became her jacket and the dog’s collar. These small details help to create a cohesive story and move the viewers eye around the painting.
