Drawing a woman embracing her dog drenched in sunlight

I’ve recently fallen in love with pastels. Both chalk and oil. Today’s drawing is in oil pastel. Starting with a light initial sketch, mapping out proportions and placements, the general flow of the drawing.

I then began to fill in more detail. I concentrate initially on the flow of the portrait around the page and then choose some key focal points. I use varying lines and textures to create contrast. I hold the pastel loosely between my fingers to create loose and interesting strokes. I concentrate on looking at the colours that make up the image. A bit like zooming in on pixels,
