Tomorrow I’m going on a gold gilding course, I’ve been very excited about this because I’ve been playing around with gold leaf for quite some time. My plan from there is to create a series of 24 karat gold and 22 karat rose gold art works.

This piece began with an inky sketch followed by many layers of soft chalk pastel.
The thing I adore about pastel is that it is so easy to control. I created this entire portrait with cotton buds! They blend pastel fabulously.
The background is a wash of dusty rose Inktense watercolour. Once that was dry I applied gilding adhesive and imitation gold leaf (great for experimenting with before moving on to genuine gold). There are starter sets available which include all of the tools, gold leaf, adhesive and varnish.
