What’s the first impression you want to give people?
At three years old I was diagnosed with a hip condition called Perthes Disease. It only affects a very small percentage of the worlds population. And as many children desire to be, I wanted to be a ballerina. A ballerina I could never be.
As I painted this piece I realised it had become a combination of two things close to my heart, the second being my dog who passed away.

I always say to my children, that for the many bad or sad things that happen in the world, there are also many good and happy things. It’s all about perspective.
Sure, my body is restricted, but my mind is not. In my paintings I can be anything, become anything, create anything.
My youngest daughter who’s Ten and very good at art said to me yesterday “I want to be a doctor so I probably wouldn’t need art at school.” So I posed to her this: When a doctor or a surgeon are faced with a seemingly impossible medical situation they think creatively in order to find a solution. Art encourages creative thinking. Surgery in its own right is an art.
There is always a place for art.
First impressions? I’ll leave that up to the interpreter… 😊
