Ella the French Bulldog is a fictional dog I created. Isn’t she cute!? I had a lot of fun with this one.

It’s an original watercolour painting on 100% cotton watercolour paper. What do I love about 100% cotton paper? The way the colour bleeds across the paper. Given that Ella the French bulldog has short hair, I wanted the appearance of her fur to look smooth.
By far the easiest way to maintain crisp highlights in a watercolour painting is via the application of masking fluid. Note: This really only works well applied to completely dry watercolour paper. I once tried to apply it after the first layer of watercolour and when I removed it later it ripped the surface layer of the watercolour paper off with it. A very sad moment when your once beautiful painting becomes a devastation.
I’ve recently switched from regular watercolour to Inktense watercolour. The difference in vibrancy is outstanding!

The difference being that Inktense is ink but in the style of watercolour. The only thing to bear in mind is that whist watercolour is somewhat easy to remove if a mistake is made, ink is not!
