Painting a Warrior Woman and Her Tiger

I realised something this week whilst watching a Christmas Rom Com. Why do they so often begin the love story with the two characters despising each other?

Love should be gentle, it should be kind, it should lift you up. I always teach my kids to surround themselves with people who make them feel good. But these movies teach them to accept falling in love with someone who essentially treats them like crap at the beginning.

This series of animal portraits is close to my heart because it is the depiction of my own life’s relationship learnings. That love is equal. That even the strongest of characters can be gentle.

When I paint a fantasy pet portrait I disappear into another realm in my mind. Where life is not chaotic, where time stands still and colours are bright and beautiful.

When a viewer looks at my painting I want them to feel the love and connection I feel as I paint it.

You deserve love, love that is equally felt and equally demonstrated, gentle, kind and above all lifts you up.
